We arrive at New York Ave./Florida Ave./Gallaudet Station, on the same train as two groups of chasers that we’ve spotted. We hurry down the stairs to try to break away from the pack. When we reach the bottom we see that they are ahead of us and behind, covering the two available exits.
We hover around the exit, keeping a watchful eye on the chasers who lurk in the shadows hoping to take what’s ours. Not now. Not like this. We wait, hoping they lose interest. Two of them depart. Another train will be arriving with other players in a few minutes. We have to find a window, make a window.
It looks clear. We cautiously step out and back into the night. We turn right and pass Five Guys and cross Florida Avenue and start walking up it. It’s quiet. Eerily quiet. Where have they gone?
I check the map every few minutes to be sure we know where we are going. My paranoia only allows me to focus on any task that doesn’t involve frantically surveying our surroundings for but a moment at a time.
We have to get to 1st Street NW. We are going to head up North Capitol to overshoot as Florida will probably have some of the most coverage. We’ll try to slip in through R St. and just drop in on Florida and 1st.
